Introduction
Kaluach.net® brings the features of Kaluach® for Windows
to the web. Available for you to use from any browser-equipped computer,
store your own personal events such as birthdays and yahrzeits, all
according to the Hebrew calendar (of course) and the civil calendar.
Kaluach.net also sends you reminders of holidays and your personal
events by email.
Special Notes
Please note that Kaluach.net is free to use, but
it takes a lot of money to maintain this service. If you are
interested in advertising your products or service on Kaluach.net,
then please

After you log into Kaluach.net, your session remains "active" even if you close your browser
(if your browser has cookies enabled). When you go to Kaluach.net the next time, you will
automatically be logged in again.
If you prefer to terminate a session, you may click on
(on the
upper right had corner of the Kaluach.net screen). The next time you go to Kaluach.net,
you will now need to login again.

- Jewish holidays
- This includes the high holy days, chagim, minor holidays, and fast days.
- Jewish holidays are indicated with this icon

- Sefirat haomer is displayed on the screen with no icon.
- American national holidays
- This includes national holidays as well as New Year's, Easter, and Christmas.
The reason for the inclusion of the religious holidays is that since the
United States is predominantly Christian, the religious holidays
have become national holidays (that is, you get to stay home from work).
- American holidays (including the religious holidays) are indicated with the American flag

- add a user defined event
- Navigate to the day you would like to add an event to.
- Click on the add events icon
on the left side of the screen.
- Fill in the information desired in the popup dialog box.

- From the day view that has your event, click on the "edit"

appearing next to the event
you want to modify. Or, you can modify the event from the
events display option explained below.
- Make your changes and then click on "save"

events display option explained below.
- Answer "yes" or "cancel" and this event will be deleted.

This feature allows you to list all of your events, modify or delete an event, or jump directly to special days associated with your event. From the day, month, or year views, click on the "events" icon
on the left side of the screen.
- To delete an event, click on the trash can
appearing next to the event you want to delete.
- To modify the details of an event, click on the "edit" icon
appearing next to the event you want to modify.
- Click on one of the icons (
) appearing next to the event dates to jump directly to special days associated with your event.
- Click on either the Hebrew or civil date to jump to the original date that the event occured.

In the month view, birthdays and anniversaries are displayed with the following additional information:
(where # is a number)
- #c - number of civil years
- #h - number of Hebrew years
- #b - number of years (Hebrew and civil observance fall on same the date)
In addition, birthdays may have one of the following:
- born - born, actual date of birth
- bm - bar/bat mitzvah (Hebrew observance only)
- event display in day view
In the month view, birthdays and anniversaries are displayed with the following additional information:

Here are the icons that are displayed with each type of user-defined event:
birthday
yom zikaron (yahrzeit)
anniversary

- You can specify which reminders you would like to receive (Jewish holidays,
American holidays, and user events).
- You can set how far in advance you would like to receive reminders.
- Reminders are not sent on Shabbat or the chagim. This means that there are
times you might receive a reminder a day or two before the time you have specified.
To manage your location settings, click on the
button found at the
top right of the screen. Then click on "
locations".
Selection of locations is done from the table on the left side of the screen, and
maintaining your "user list" is done from the table on the right side of the screen.
On the left side of the screen:
- select a default for Kaluach.net
- select a location from one of the three lists
- click on the "default" button
- this location will now be saved as the default location to use when logging in
- select a default for your current computer
- select a location from one of the three lists
- click on the "computer" button
- this location will now be saved as a cookie on your computer and will override the above Kaluach.net default
On the right side of the screen:
- add a new location to your "user list" of location
- fill in the details of your location in the table found on the right side of the screen
- make sure all fields are filled in (Kaluach.net can't guess)
- click on the "add" button
- this location will now be added to your "user list"
- modify a location in your "user list" of location
- select the location you wish to modify from the list in table on the right side of the screen
- change the details
- click on the "change" button
- the updated information will now replace the original information
- delete a location from your "user list" of location
- select the location you wish to delete from the list in table on the right side of the screen
- click on the "delete" button
- this location will now be deleted from your "user list"
- How can I stop receiving reminders?
You can disable reminders very easily. Click "settings" (upper right of
Kaluach.net window) and then click "reminders" (on left side). Uncheck the
reminders you no longer wish to receive and click "save".
- How can I change my contact email?
Click on "settings" at the top right of the screen. Then under "personal
data, enter in you new email and click on "save". You will receive a
"confirmation email" explaining what needs to be done to complete
your email address change.
- Where can I find the times for Shabbat (Candlelighting and Havdalah)?
The Shabbat times - knissat shabbat (candlelighting) and tzeit shabbat
(havdalah) - are displayed in the calendar's day view. Just click on the
Shabbat that you want the times for and the shabbat times will be displayed
along with the other halachic times for the day.
Kaluach.net has now been operating for almost a year.
Nonetheless, it is a a work in progress and there
might be bugs popping up from time to time.
Every effort will be made to respond to bug reports
and suggestions. Just make sure your kids aren't in the room when
you decide to vocalize your discontent.
Here is what's planned for future versions of Kaluach.net (in no particular order).
- send reminders in Hebrew
- additional languages (French, German, Russian, British English :-)
- add other national holidays (Canadian, French, British, German, etc)
